UK Hilton Hotel Portsmouth Red Rust Leak Prevention for Air Conditioning Piping
Case study of introducing NMR pipe protectors into hotel air conditioning piping.
The Hilton Hotel Portsmouth, located in the city of Portsmouth, is a hotel of the globally renowned Hilton Group, known for its five-star rating. Built in 1981, it has 120 guest rooms. Due to the use of galvanized steel pipes (SGP) for the air conditioning and hot water piping, the hotel faced serious issues with red rust deterioration and leaks after 25 years. Additionally, the red rust reduced the heat exchange efficiency of the air conditioning equipment, necessitating regular pipe cleaning. However, the cleaning process caused holes in the pipes, leading to further leaks. To stop the red rust corrosion and leaks in the air conditioning piping, an NMR Pipe Protector, a rust prevention and extension device, was installed on December 9, 2005.
